The responsibility lay intently in the hands and pencils of the ID and CMF (Industrial Design and Color, Material, Finish) Teams. They work in unison, shaping form, colors, and textures that define the next generation of OPPO's quintessential flagship line.
The team calls the design process a Find X Series homecoming. Seven years have passed since the original OPPO Find X made its striking debut. The headlines it grabbed were cause for celebration, but they also became (then and now) a benchmark to meet and surpass.
With the latest generation, extraordinary imaging has become the unspoken expectation for OPPO's flagship line. Standing here, backed by imaging prowess that no longer needs proving, the Find X9 Series embarks on a design journey with the posture of a device that has nothing to prove, but everything to maintain and a lot to expand. It takes its learnings and shares them with the world.
More Space to Create
Not a homage, not a remake, but a return to one of the most beloved design languages in Find's history. The choice between a centered, symmetrical circular module and a top-left square one is never a question of right or wrong. An even more powerful imaging system is tucked into a compact corner space. Thanks to this tighter, edge-hugging stack, the Find X9 Series optimizes board real estate, frees up more room for components—performance and aesthetics, married by design.
Whether held vertically or horizontally, the result is a reinvented space that provides more grip. The versatility is especially valuable for long photography sessions or a quick read during commute time. By offsetting the imaging module to one corner, it creates dynamic energy from the layout alone—let's call it visual tension. It's emotion through shape and space. Just as important as repetition is breaking the pattern: the racetrack oval breaks the uniformity of repeated circles.
Visual anchors within the field of vision guide the eye and build layers of information, pairing with a ring-shaped Hasselblad badge—a break in style that acts as a visual checkpoint. Together, they form the phone's most striking visual anchors.
The Quiet Victory of Balance
One of the loneliest battles in a designer's life isn't when something goes wrong. It's easy to be called out for a mistake. Ironically, a perfect design hardly evokes one specific reaction. Yes, you get awe from the harmony of shapes and materials, but if the work is done right, you can't quite pinpoint why you like it so much—at least not immediately.
That's the value of stories: giving voice and a platform to the team that works on the beautiful materials we use. For the Find X9 Series' minimalist ethos, designers prioritized experience. They simplified the imaging module's assembly, using a single flat lens to reduce protrusion and eliminate the intrusive feel of bulky modules. Vision and touch align perfectly.
Lightness and softness became the explicit stylistic theme. We chose flatter designs and more understated finishes. Matte materials dominate the mid-frame, back cover, and even the lens glass. Only the imaging module's edge and the lens window's outer rim catch a delicate arc of light, defining boundaries with grace. It's a gentle contact point with flat surfaces, a semantic nod to the optics' core function, and a way to temper visual sharpness—painting an overall impression of lightness and calm.
Elements you feel, you see, but that only truly express themselves in synchronous balance. The value of an outstanding design project is how it all perfectly balances.
Colors That Carry a Legacy
Color holds the spirit; design translates emotion. But how are these colors born? These aren't random shades. Every color is built to dance with light, to feel alive the moment you pick the phone up. Take the red variant: it's pure, unfiltered passion in a world of cold tech. It doesn't shout; it just is—warm, confident, ready.
Now, this isn't just a hue of red. This is where it gets interesting: digging deeper into the process the designers use to achieve a benchmark-consistent, pure, flawless red on every Find X9. We ditched the old ways of printing for custom-colored OCA (Optical Clear Adhesive). This process, also known as optical bonding, eliminates the air gap between layers. Crucially, it simplifies structure—thinning the body for an even more comfortable grip. First mass production of this dual-upgrade craft.
But legacy is nothing if not a balance. Can a connection carry legacy? Can a relationship hold one too? Or is legacy simply the emotion that binds everything together? For OPPO and its Find X9 Series, legacy is the return of the familiar; no, the respect for the familiar.
