OPPO Unveils Latest Sustainability Achievements as it Sets to Showcase Green Technologies at MWC 2022

22 February 2022, SINGAPORE — On the eve of the Barcelona Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, OPPO has unveiled its 2021 OPPO Sustainability Report, detailing the company’s achievements in integrating sustainable and eco-friendly concepts into its entire product lifecycle as it continues to pursue its brand mission of “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World”.

OPPO is committed to implementing the internationally recognised “3R+1D” sustainable packaging principles, which include reducing the weight of packaging, reusing recycled materials, and using recyclable and biodegradable materials in its packaging. Starting from the European market, the overall plastic used in packaging of its smartphone products has reduced by 95% since 2019. For plastic materials that cannot be replaced for now, OPPO chooses to use the biodegradable polylactic acid material. Additionally, approximately 45% of its smartphone packaging were made from recycled fiber, reducing the use of raw materials.

“3R+1D” Green Packaging Principles

To increase product durability, OPPO has also introduced a self-developed Battery Health Engine to increase the lifespan of its batteries. With this innovative technology, the battery is able to maintain up to 80% of its capacity after charging and discharging up to 1600 times.

OPPO has already established a product recycling system, offering trade-in services to promote the recycling and reuse of used mobile phones. In China, more than 1.2 million phones have been recycled through the scheme to date, equating to more than 216 tons in electronic waste. In the European Union and other regions, OPPO provides local recycling systems with financial support, participates in the Green Dot recycling program for packaging waste, and works with professional third-party recycling companies.

Alongside its own actions, OPPO has also been working closely with other partners to promote sustainability.

OPPO was one of the first companies to join the Eco Rating Labeling Scheme and performed well. The scheme is initiated by leading European mobile operators to evaluate the environmental performance of mobile phones in five key areas: durability, repairability, recyclability and climate efficiency.

On top of its efforts in environment protection, OPPO is taking action to contribute to sustainable development, with a focus on key areas including digital inclusion, health and wellbeing, and youth empowerment. For example, OPPO developed the Colour Vision Enhancement feature, which offers 766 display profiles, providing a personalised solution for people with colour vision impairment. OPPO has also taken action to empower young people. For three consecutive years, OPPO runs its Renovators Emerging Artists Project, which provides a platform for young creatives to imagine how art and technology will intertwine in the future.

Later this month, OPPO will exhibit at the MWC 2022 in Barcelona under the theme of “Shape the Future”. During MWC 2022, OPPO will showcase its innovative mobile technologies, the latest achievements in AR and 5G, and success stories in sustainability. All visitors are welcome to visit the OPPO booth at #3M10, Hall 3, Fira Gran at MWC Barcelona from February 28 to March 3. OPPO will also be hosting a keynote presentation at 10 pm (SGT) on February 28.
