OPPO joins LF AI & Data Foundation as a premier member
Established by the Linux Foundation in March 2018, the LF AI & Data Foundation consists of 49 members across several industries. The mission of the foundation is to build and support an open AI and Data community as well as drive open source innovation in the domains including AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Data by enabling collaboration and the creation of new opportunities for all the members of the community.
Moving towards its mission of “Technology for mankind, Kindness for the world”, OPPO strives to create an open ecosystem in which developers and partners can enable and enrich each other in the era of the Internet of Experience and to attract like-minded partners such as LF AI & Data Foundation.
For years, OPPO has been continuously investing in artificial intelligence and data technology. OPPO’s AI & Data Engineering System delivers better services to users and developers across the globe through exploration and development in these core technologies such as conversational AI, machine learning, personalised recommendation algorithms, cloud and data services, and security and privacy.
By joining the LF AI & Data Foundation, OPPO’s experienced technologists Liam Zheng and Dr. Jia Jimin will respectively serve as representatives of the governing board and representatives of the technical advisory council. They will work closely with other LF AI & Data's members to find out the best practices for using open source tools in production.
“We are pleased to welcome OPPO as a premier member on our governing board. They will have a voting seat on all of our foundation level committees,” said Dr. Ibrahim Haddad, Executive Director at LF AI & Data Foundation.
“We support open source development and the creation of a sustainable ecosystem that makes integration with open source AI and data technologies both easier and more reliable. OPPO realizes the importance of this effort and are working hard to foster a healthy ecosystem. We are thrilled that OPPO has strategically joined us at the highest membership level to drive innovation in the community and support our hosted technical projects.”
OPPO have always valued openness and collaboration, which fuels innovation, and therefore, bringing further technological advancements for everyone. In June 2020, OPPO became the first platinum member of the OpenChain – an umbrella project of the Linux Foundation – to build a global open source ecosystem by developing the open source ISO standards as the first Mainland China company.
At the OPPO ODC 2020 in October, ColorOS unlocked seven system-level capability exposure engines for developers and partners by opening source in hopes of creating an open and collaborative ecosystem, and hence, further improving user experience. In March 2021, OPPO Breeno became the first smartphone voice assistant in mainland China with over one hundred million monthly active users. This June, OPPO Breeno team together with industry-leading universities and research institutes also released the most comprehensive Chinese conversational AI dataset to date, building a solid data foundation to drive the research in the field of conversational AI.
Aiming to become an ecosystem company, OPPO strives to explore an open and integrated ecosystem while also benefiting each individual and helping everyone make the most out of their lives by bringing them the brand-new intelligent experience. In the future, OPPO will continue to establish a deeper engagement with the global open source community for the sustainable development and mass adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
