Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has unveiled a new flagship that takes the budget brand into new pricey territory with top features including a 38-minute full charge time and a crisp 120-Hz display that melts around the edges.

The Find X2 model, also available in a Pro version, is the latest smartphone to bring a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which makes for noticeably more fluid motion on screen, albeit with a price tag upwards of €1,000 (RM4,797).

Due to launch in Europe at the beginning of May, both phones feature a large, 6.7in Amoled screen (3,168 x 1,440 pixels) rounded off at the sides and with a small selfie camera cutout in the corner.

Oppo promises that each display will be colour calibrated and decently bright too, with at least 800 nits of brightness.

Another big feature are the materials on the back. For the Find X2 Pro (€1,200 (RM5,756)), buyers can choose between black ceramic with a micro-ribbed surface for a better grip or an orange durable polyurethane leatherette, which should make vegan customers happy.

For the Find X2 (€1,000), shoppers can choose between black ceramic and blue glass. In both models, Oppo relies on triple camera systems with a 48 MP sensor with a wide-angle lens at the centre.

In the Find X2 Pro, this (Sony IMX689) turns out to be particularly large (1/1.4in), while in the Find X2 there is a somewhat smaller Sony IMX568 sensor.

The X2 Pro has a 10x optical hybrid zoom via the vertically installed lens systems of the telephoto lens, while the X2 only manages half that.

Both models record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second and combine optical and electronic image stabilisation for smoother footage.

However, some camera features are unique to the Pro model, including the ability to capture and export RAW-format photos with 12-bit colour depth.

Users will be protected against water and dust with IP54-level certification, with the better IP68 level saved for the Pro version.

Qualcomm's top processor, the Snapdragon 865, is at work here, along with a generous 12GB of RAM and 256GB (or 512GB in the Pro version) of storage space. In other words, this phone should be able to keep up with other flagships released in recent months.

Both models can pick up 5G signals, if your carrier is already offering this faster connection speed. The fingerprint sensor is hidden in the display, as is common with newer phones.

Perhaps most impressive of all, however, is the speed of charging. Just 38 minutes are needed to charge the 4,200 mAh battery (4,260 mAh in the Pro model) thanks to the included 65 watt charger.

You won't be able to wirelessly charge this phone, but then again, just 20 minutes of cable charging gets you more than half of your battery restored. – dpa
