  • OPPO Find X3 Pro is the only smartphone able to capture the micro artworks of Guinness World Record holder Willard Wigan

London, 15 December, 2021 – Today, global smartphone brand OPPO announces a partnership with Willard Wigan MBE, a British sculptor who makes microscopic art to uncover an unseen side of the world.  Fans of Willard Wigan can now get exclusive insights into Willard’s personal story and a behind the scenes look at Willard capturing his work here[RB1] .

Willard’s microscopic sculptures can typically only be seen through a microscope, until now, thanks to the OPPO Find X3 Pro – the only smartphone in the world that can capture Willard’s sculptures with the unique microlens camera feature. The partnership sees a new video and imagery collection of Willard’s sculptures and artwork, all captured on the OPPO Find X3 Pro.

Willard Wigan MBE is the Guinness World Record Holder for the world’s smallest hand sculptures. Willard has dyslexia and autism, and struggled at school, being convinced by his teachers that he would amount to nothing. Willard’s mission was set from this young age to achieve greatness by showing the world that nothing could be everything. He found solace and peace in creating art of such minute proportions that it could not be seen with the naked eye.

Willard continues to follow his late mother’s advice; “the smaller your work, the bigger your name” and challenges himself by striving to make each work even smaller than the one before. Using the OPPO Find X3 Pro microlens, Willard can capture his work for extreme close ups like never before, uncovering an unseen side of the world.

OPPO’s partnership with Willard Wigan is an example of the intersection between technology and art. Unlocking creativity in the world around us, the microlens captures incredible imagery of things that can’t be seen by the naked eye, magnified up to 60 times - the only smartphone microlens camera on the market to capture these details.

Willard Wigan comments “Working with OPPO to capture my art has been a true delight. I’m genuinely so impressed by the microlens on the Find X3 Pro, which is the only smartphone I’ve ever used which can capture my microscopic art, shining a new light on my creations. From an early age I believed small things are important and there’s another world we can’t see. Just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, and the OPPO Find X3 Pro opens up a world of possibilities. I’m excited for people to discover the microscopic world and discover the smaller things in life in a spectacular way.”

OPPO believes that technology is an artform, and this notion has been further established through support of events such as the London Design Festival and initiatives such as the OPPO Renovators Emerging Artists Programme. More recently, OPPO launched the Lens of Inspiration competition, challenging 10 UK students and graduate designers to develop sustainable textile prints and garments from micro-imagery of everyday items that inspire them, shining a light on the growing influence of tech in fashion and design.

Anna Morgan, OPPO UK Marketing Director comments “It’s an honour to partner with Willard Wigan and work with such a renowned artist. At OPPO we aim to develop awe-inspiring camera phone technology, and we’re delighted to bring the capabilities of the microlens technology to life by capturing Willard’s microscopic artwork.  We can’t wait to continue exploring the intersection of technology and art.”
