  • OPPO’s Reno11 Series redefines Portrait Photography with its proprietary imaging algorithms

New Delhi, January 03, 2024: OPPO, known for its expertise in smartphone photography, will introduce its proprietary colour calculation technology—the Hypertone Imaging Engine—on its new Reno11 Series. This imaging algorithm will join other OPPO innovations such as SUPERVOOCTM and BHE (Battery Health Engine) for faster, safe-charging, long-lasting batteries and an industry-leading 10-bit colour display for an all-rounder smartphone that makes for an ideal travel companion.

Camera Experience driven by OPPO Technology
The Hypertone Imaging Engine uses deep pixel fusion to process lossless photos in the RAW domain. As a result, image details are preserved with accurate colours and an extended dynamic range for a perfect balance between light and shadows. Additionally, AI Denoise and AI Demosaic algorithms are employed to increase portrait image clarity in lighting conditions that are less than ideal.

OPPO’s Tone Mapping Control algorithm debugs and optimises lighting, colouring, and texture for accurate results with Indian skin tones in portrait photos. These algorithms are developed with feedback from an internal expert team and finetuned in collaboration with external professionals, including renowned celebrity wedding photographer Joseph Radhik from India. OPPO’s Face Curve algorithm optimises stereoscopic light and shade effects on human faces to give portraits a sense of story and environment.

OPPO’s upgraded processing algorithm leverages the 50MP Sony IMX890 main camera’s 1/1.56-inch ultra-large sensor for vivid and detailed captures during evening gatherings, music concerts, and dimly-lit environments. Indoors, the camera’s AI Denoise feature comes into play to deliver crisp, detailed images in myriad lighting conditions; the integration of OIS and all-pixel omnidirectional PDAF guarantees stability and clarity by eliminating motion blurs in action photos involving sports, children and even pets.

    AI Innovation in Portrait Photography
The Portrait Mode in the Reno11 Series—rear and front cameras—lets users adjust the aperture from F1.4 to F16 to control background bokeh and bokeh flare; this aperture can also be adjusted during post-processing. These portrait cameras are backed by the 32MP IMX709 RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) camera sensors—co-developed by OPPO and Sony—for high-quality portraits even in dimly lit surroundings. The white (W) added to each sensor increases the light intake by 60% and reduces noise by 35% compared to a traditional RGGB lens. OPPO’s facial recognition algorithms then enhance photos in real-time after processing 296 facial feature points. Both—front and rear—snappers also incorporate proprietary 4-in-1 pixel aggregation tech to optimise photo output in all light conditions.

Additionally, the 32MP IMX709 rear camera packs a 2x telephoto lens that shortens the distances between foreground and background in photos for more intimate compositions. At the same time, its 47mm focal length provides a human eye-like perspective for proportionate visually-pleasing portraits.

OPPO’s Portrait AI can distinguish between skin blemishes and beauty spots to eliminate the former but retain the latter; it also factors skin tone, age and the sex of the subject before applying filters of beautification and skin smoothening.

For scenic vistas, the Reno11 Series packs an 8MP 112° ultra-wide-angle Sony IMX355 camera with a 1/4-inch sensor. This camera’s exceptional sensitivity to light ensures clear and vivid photographs even in low-light conditions; it boasts a broad dynamic range that preserves details in both bright and dark areas of a snapshot.

The Reno11 Series boasts additional shooting modes, including Night, Pano, Slo-mo, Dual-view video and Text scanner. Both—the front and rear—cameras support 4K videos at 30fps, and you also get an ultra-steady mode on the rear camera for 1080p videos at 60fps.

For granular control over its camera features, the Reno11 Series packs a fully-functional Pro mode that lets you adjust ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, focus and white balance. The device even supports screen overlays: a 3x3 grid, a diagonal and the Golden Spiral guides—activated from Camera Settings—to help frame perfect snapshots with aesthetically-pleasing compositions.

Powerful Performance backed by a 10-bit Colour Display
For best-in-class performance, the Reno11 Pro packs the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8200 SoC that comprises a single 3.1GHz Arm Cortex-A78 and three 3.0GHz Arm Cortex-A78 cores for performance and quad 2.0GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores for efficiency.

MediaTek’s Imagiq 785 camera technology, which boasts a 14-bit HDR-ISP, supports the Reno11's cameras to capture true-to-life HDR videos. It also supports OPPO’s home-grown technologies for better subject focus tracking.

MediaTek’s APU 580 maximises AI task efficiency and fusion processing; this allows OPPO to provide enhanced visuals and upgraded performance while meeting the strict power requirements of the Reno11 Pro in short bursts and power-sensitive scenarios.

For gamers, the Dimensity 8200’s Arm Mali-G610 graphics engine, with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 6.0 gaming technologies, ensures smooth high-framerate gameplay without any hiccups. MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync 2.0 dynamically adjusts the display refresh rate—between 60, 90 and 120Hz—according to the detected frame rate of the game to ensure smooth viewing experiences in the most intense action or need of the most responsive scenarios, rather than when watching a cut-scene, selecting loadout, or changing map.

For an even better viewing experience, the Reno11 Series supports 10-bit colours that boost output to 1.07 billion colours from the 16.7 million colours of a traditional 8-bit display; this increase in hues and tones translates into a more even, realistic, and delicate colour transition whether videos or images are viewed on the screen. Bolstered by HDR brightness of up to 950 nits, the display enables seamless viewing of images or content even in intense sunlight to make it an ideal choice for travel and outdoors.

The entry-level Reno11 comes with the octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC with two Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked up to 2.6GHz for performance, rapid app response, and smooth gaming FPS. It also packs the Arm Cortex-A55 cores, clocking at 2.0GHz for efficiency. Its Arm Mali-G68 GPU is optimised to provide smooth everyday gaming experiences with exceptional power efficiency to extend battery life for longer gaming sessions.

    Long-lasting, fast-charging battery
When it comes to battery capacity and charging, the Reno11 Pro is equipped with a 4600mAh battery and 80W SUPERVOOCTM, which enables impressive 100% charging in 28 minutes. The Reno11, on the other hand, has a sizable 5000mAh battery and supports 67W SUPERVOOCTM charging that juices the battery to 100% in 45 minutes.

Both devices feature OPPO’s Battery Health Engine (BHE) technology, which improves battery life and sustainability. The emphasis on faster charging and convenient fragmented short-time charging supports prolonged usage scenarios, allowing users to quickly recharge their devices, whether it is a 10-minute charge before heading out, in the car, or during a coffee break.
