OPPO Champions Pathbreaking Young Tennis Players at Wimbledon 2019

2019-07-10

At this year’s Wimbledon championships, there’s a new player on the court.

In 2019, OPPO became the first official smartphone sponsor of All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), host of the world-famous competition. We’re also AELTC’s first Asian partner.

Soon after the announcement Mick Desmond, Commercial & Media Director at AELTC, commented, “We are delighted to welcome OPPO to the family of Official Suppliers to The Championships, and we very much look forward to seeing the OPPO smartphones bring Wimbledon’s iconic beauty to life for our audiences around the world.”

OPPO Vice President Brian Shen added, “The Championships have a strong synergy with our brand values of prioritizing innovation and design in our products.”

The exciting agreement is projected to help both brands expand and build off each other’s respective global markets. It’s also not the first time OPPO has joined forces with major sports teams. Its all-star lineup of past partners and sponsees include FC Barcelona, International Cricket Council, and India’s national cricket team, among others.

Thanks to the newest partnership, OPPO has been designated as Wimbledon’s official phone brand, and high-performance Reno Series will play a major role in capturing highlights from the year’s most exciting games.

We’re also sponsoring an ongoing, fan-powered contest that recognizes outstanding young players’ performances.

Promising athletes across the tournament’s main five draws, as well as the wheelchair and junior draws, are eligible for the OPPO Wimbledon Breakthrough Award. Here’s how it works: at the close of each day’s games from July 1-8, Wimbledon Channel presenters announced their pick for the most stunning upset or impressive performance.

On July 9, they will narrow the list of names to just four outstanding players; the shortlist will also be announced on the Wimbledon Channel. The next day, online voting will open up to the public.

Fans will have until the morning of Sunday, July 14, to cast a vote for their favorite of the four. That evening, the winner will be announced.

The final shortlist selected are as follows:

Cori Gauff

Karolina Muchova

Matteo Berrettini

Dayana Yastremska

You can vote for who you think deserves for the OPPO Breathrough Award on Wimbledon's Twitter account or on their official website here.

But that’s not all. In a bid to encourage pathbreaking performance both on and off the court, OPPO will curate the best photos taken on users’ phones during championship and present them in its official OPPO Wimbledon gallery.

Outstanding user-uploaded shots from the contest can already be viewed on Instagram and Twitter under the hashtag #acetheshot. And for more high-definition coverage courtesy of OPPO phones, follow OPPO's official account on Instagram.
